This little joint is a must on a PCB vacation. The first time I wasn't sold on the meal but after a second try it was very tasty. It is small and has a huge draw so be prepared to wait for two hours to be seated. If you have children be aware of the waiting. Cheese grits were yummy and the seafood was so fresh. Grilled is the only way to go and the portions are just right--not to full for an ice cream on the way home!

This place was such a wonderful mistake to find! My husband and I are kind of oyster snobs, and the oysters (tried all three) were amazing! Not to mention we had the smoked tuna dip and she crab soup. Beat tuna dip I've ever had, and the she crab soup, I can't even explain how delicious it was!! We sat at the bar with Leroy and Mason, they made our experience even better!! Thanks guys!

I really enjoyed the food and service here. We only had about a 10 minute wait. Our waitress was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. The baked Cajun oysters were delicious. I had the half and half dinner of grilled red snapper and scallops and all was moist and tender and seasoned perfectly. The cole slaw is very good, mayo based, and the waitress was great at keeping our drinks filled. I love the cooking methods offered and will definitely return for more oysters and fresh fish.

Visited Friday night. Very disappointed. Should have known what to expect as you are greeted with the smell of grease in the air when you walk in. Food was below average. Grilled fish sandwich was bland. Grilled shrimp po' boy was skimpy, especially at $15. Might have been 6 shrimp. No flavor, lousy presentation. Place is very dated and is in need of an overhaul especially for what they charge. Staff was attentive but seemed bored and robotic. Place does a good business. Not sure why, perhaps unfamiliar tourists and snowbirds? This place was recommended to us, but we won't be back. Just sayin - much better food elsewhere.

We started our dinner with a dozen oysters. Delicious. We had grilled Amberjack, grilled Mahi-Mahi, popcorn shrimp, cheese grits, cole slaw and baked potato. All selections were delicious and we enjoyed every bite!

Mediocre, But very dissapointing when price factored in. Fried captains platter with oysters bland and poor quality product. Deviled crab was the best but appeared to be like one of the frozen ones you can get anywhere. Cheese grits good but not special. Mixed veggies not fresh but tasted good because they had been floating in butter and we're saturated. Hush puppies were very good and composed most of my meal. Seated immediately but service just ok, half the meal with no water and slow to get check.

Food was fresh. Oysters were a little big. Fish tacos fresh. Service was hopping and tea glass always full.

Great food and service. Don't be detracted by the exterior or the decoration, these guys can cook. I recommend the grilled Captains Platter and the oysters. Very fresh seafood.

Needs updated and some cleaning. The cod was a lil dry and shrimp was small. They were out of all of their wines except the white zinphendel. The bus boy, I guess that's who he was, was standing in the middle of the restaurant hallway on his phone the whole time. Food was okay but not worth the money.

Came here for the first night on vacation & was recommended by lobby staff. Outstanding is an understatement! We ordered raw oysters as an appetizer and the smoked tuna dip as an appetizer. You can't get any better or more authentic than them pulling the oysters out of the catch bag and shucking them right in front of you to put on a tray (we sat at the bar). Oysters were served with horseradish (not sauce), crackers and hot sauce. Tuna dip was fantastic, came with crackers and homemade potato chips. Ordered grilled grouper throats since one of the fishermen said they had freshly caught grouper and snapper of the day and that the throats were the best kept secret. Man was he right!! My boyfriend and I split a plate of them and it was so much fish that we couldn't even finish it. Topped with some peppers and tomatoes, we ordered cheese grits and fried okra that were to die for. Also came with hush puppies and a homemade 'grill sauce' that was amazing. If you ever stop in this area while on vacay or whatever, this will certainly make every inch of your trip worthwhile!!! :)

Food is ok, VERY expensive expect to pay $35.00 a person. Won't come back. The atmosphere is one of a very old restaurant. The price doesn't compliment the restaurant at all

  • Arthur H.

Small tavern like restaurant with great seafood! There seems to be always a line as the place is small but it's worth the wait. We had a dozen baked oysters, split a pound of sautéed shrimp, 2 side salads with blu cheese($1.00 add on), 2 beers, got really full for less than $30. The baked oysters with cheese and the shrimp were excellent! The salads were fresh and cold. I'll be back. Recommended

So I give the restaurant 4 stars based on the food and service. I debated about giving it 3 stars because of how the place looked on the inside. Came here for dinner with a co-worker on the recommendation of locals that we were working with. It is not big, and like other reviewers it does need cleaned up inside, if they did that I think they'd get even more business and better ratings. Because it is a small restaurant it does get crowded and very busy. We apparently lucked out and came right before the rush, but when we left there was a line down to the end of the building. So get there early or plan to wait. Our waitress was fantastic, told us how things were and was up front about the food. Her recommendations were spot on. Great place for fresh seafood. They do make some of their own desserts, so be sure to ask what's made there. Pricing is reasonable for what you get.

Can't say anything bad about this place at all. Food and service was great and we went on a Saturday night. We all had something different and tried a little of everything. Salads were more lettuce than anything but dressing were good I had the Greek. Grouper throats and fish were good. Throats were cheaper but had many bones so be careful. The grilled grouper and shrimp had a great flavor and was by far the best I ate. The baked potatoes were hot and cooked well and hush puppies had a sweet taste which I thought was good. Key lime pie was also good. Everything was fresh price was a little high but very good place to eat.

  • Sara N.

Our favorite place to eat when visiting PCB. The fried shrimp is the best!!! It's always packed so go early or be prepared for a wait!

    (5)
  • Bella B.

Good food good service ! Might want to go around 5:00, because at 6:00 the place is packed. My fish tacos were very yummy and the waitress was very nice !

    (4)
  • Sarah V.

I ordered the fish tacos that had cod as the fish and I paid $1.00 more for the fish to be blackened. The fish was cooked perfectly I just wish there was more fish inside the tacos because I was still hungry after. The tacos came with one side. My meal was around $15.00 and I expected a little more food. I've actually never had anything bad Omar Captains table. If you're looking for a local hot spit go to Captains table and the fish is always fresh!!

My family wanted crab legs for dinner so we called Captain's Table before we left to confirm they had crab legs available for dinner that night and they said "yes". We arrived at 4:30pm, which seemed early enough to get the crab legs. As the server took our orders, she said "Oh, sorry we just ran out of crab legs 30 seconds ago". Really!? No, we just called and they said you had plenty. The only reason we came to this place was for crab legs. My husband ordered the mahi mahi blackened sandwich and he said it was good. I ordered the captain's platter and it was decent, but way overpriced for the amount of food....not $27 worth. Very disappointed!

  • Jimmy D.

Came for fresh seafood, and that's exactly what we got! Started with calamari and the smoked tuna dip. The tuna dip was the fav. Grouper was fresh both broiled and grilled. Fried seafood platter was spot on. Never had grits before and can't say I will order them again. Service was top notch!

    (5)
  • Alex Y.

Great food! Service was a little slow but the food was so worth the wait. We had two dozen raw oysters and the kids loved watching them shuck the oysters. Drinks were cold and food was great - we'll be back here again.

  • Chastity E.

A great place for fantastic seafood. It was very busy but still had great service. One of my Bay County favorites for sure! We will definitely be back every time family comes to visit from out of state.

  • Juan E.

This review is getting 2 stars because of the service, which was great. The price, which is on the high side, doesn't match the quality of the food. My family and I ordered 3 different entrees, all of which appeared to be cooked WAY ahead of our order (the temperature of the fried seafood was lukewarm at best). The food seemed like it was cooked 30 minutes in advanced, and somebody forgot to put it under a heat lamp. All in all, I wouldn't recommend. Unless you come here to try some of their sides, the zucchini salad was great, you are certainly best avoiding this place and it's overpriced food. BONUS: do not, by any means, expect a whole fish with your entree. You get "fish strips" that you may not be able to tell apart (fried snapper vs fried grouper = same).

    (2)
  • Heather C.

Terrible. Truly terrible. Our oysters were flavorless, barely baked, and covered in plastic cheese. The she-crab soup was a watery nightmare -- my husband and I both felt ill shortly after eating there.

    (2)
  • Renee D.

I grade this place lower than all the other seafood places in town just because their food is average and prices are outrageous. Seriously, $11.99 for a dozen raw oysters? The fried food is average, baked fish & sandwiches are average. Their standard fish sandwich is COD (yuck) but you can pay extra for grouper. I rarely go here unless it's a crowd's decision and I'm overruled.

    (3)
  • Nicole P.

Really not impressed. I've had the fish tacos (meh) and the grouper throats, which were like very bony but tender chicken. Small portions and nothing special. Very overpriced. They won't let you park there for long either, make sure to notice all the signs around indicating how long you can park...they boot! Atmosphere is diner like and cluttered. It's just waiting for Gordon Ramsay, seems like...

    (2)
  • Jane S.

First of all, the food was pretty good and we didn't have to wait very long. Other than that, it was wildly overpriced, it was so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation, the place was not very clean, and we could have had a lovely dinner with cocktails at the Shrimp Boat for what we spent here. Never again.

    (2)
  • Nate E.

I had to think hard and look for reasons even to give this place a 2 star rating. I come to PCB frequently and have had friends recommend to me on more than one occasion. The service was terrible and the food was worse than that. Don't be fooled... It is not worth the time or effort to dine here. I wanted to give my comments to the manager upon checkout but he never looked me in the face as he took my card for payment, never asking about the service or the food. Not even a thank you for this waste of $45 for a poor excuse for fish tacos and a red snapper sandwich that was subpar at best. Never again!

  • John C.

I'm surprised to read a few of the bad reviews on here. Captain's Table has always been fantastic for me and my family. Out of everything on the menu, the horseradish crusted snapper is the best. Absolutely phenomenal. Can't wait for the winter months and some decent oysters. If it wasn't for the wait from time to time, this place would be absolutely perfect.

    (5)
  • Randy G.

I read through all of the reviews before going to this restaurant I was greeted very promptly the waitress was very nice and the owner was standing right there I did go ahead and tell him about the reviews that I read online he was very respectful and took criticism very well and put no blame on anybody else I give an A the place is very clean

I went here on a suggestion from my coworkers. I expected that a place near the ocean would have a respectable meal. I had and urge for a Seafood Platter (25.00) so I went ahead and ordered it. As I sat there waiting for my food to arrive I noticed that the place was not so clean. The floors were dirty. Food on the floor. Even color crayons smashed on the floor. In other words it was not being kept up. My food arrived in a quite timely manner I noticed at this time that my $$$ to Food Quality was not there. The portions made Captain Ds look generous. The plate had the following 4 shrimp, 10 very small scallops, 3 pieces of fish ( 2 were very dry ) and 2 overcooked hush puppies. Ok.. the good part.. My Cole slaw looked fresh but my baked potato was truly overcooked and dry. I have to admit the wait staff were great and friendly as should be expected, but this overall experience was less than stellar. As I drove away I thought to myself " this place takes advantage of unknowing tourists". I would have been happier if this meal was called a " small fisherman's plate " and take the word platter out. Can you tell I won't go there again and will dissuade my coworkers from going there when they travel to Panama City

Great fried oysters and shrimp! The food here is always good and the service is great too.

I'm no Southern man. I lived in Tampa for a few years when I was seven, but that is a bit too far south to be The South, and I was hardly a man. Suffice to say, had I never dated a Southern girl for a few years, I may never have known how well ya'll eat down in these here parts. Shortly after flying in to Panama City Airport to meet the family of that aforementioned girl, they decided to welcome me to the area with a visit to the Captain's Table. I'm sure the Captain has a lot of great food on his menu, but I'm not the one to ask. I don't think I even picked it up: Apalachicola oysters, and that was that for me, although someone did decide to order a massive mound of cooked shrimp as well (good call, whoever that was). But, I digress. Back to the topic at hand: Oysters. So many damn oysters. I didn't realize how many I could put down until I added what felt like four inches to my waistline. Baked oysters, raw oysters, oysters with cheese, Crystal hot sauce, lemon, crazy ass tangy dressing to bathe them in. Dozen after dozen after dozen at $3 an order, put down like some Alice In Wonderland reenactment. If only "The Walrus & The Carpenter" had been playing in the background. It would have been more than appropriate. Washing the orgasmic little bastards down with pitchers of cold, dark beer and getting more and more comfortable with her father's somewhat unpredictable sense of humor, I had a feeling I was going to like this part of the country. Looking back, I was right, and my dinner at the Captain's was certainly a highlight. That and swimming with the dolphins out in Saint Andrew Bay, wishing the water wasn't murky from the recent storm, reminding myself the shadowy shapes approaching were not in fact sharks, and thinking of the little shelled lovelies that might be just beneath me, out of sight and safe, for the moment.

A good alternative when Hunt's is slammed down the street. They have equally as good oysters and you MUST try their Grouper throat. Get it grilled (bigger portion)!

  • Colleen K.

Okay we were looking forward to going to this place because we heard that they are one of the few restaurants in the area that has local seafood. It was just alright. It would probably have been fantastic if it were in a non-beach town, but I expect a bit more when I am so close to the water. The food was just okay, but I think it was overpriced. I had an amberjack sandwich and it didn't make my taste buds sing. My husband had the scallops and was just kind of impressed. We both decided that we much preferred Hunts for the atmosphere and the food.

  • nate s.

I liken this place to a fish fry hut that wants to be right on the water but sadly isn't. The food isn't the best but fried good isn't necessarily a bad thing in most cases. It is in the historic part of St Andrews, but then again so is the world famous Tan Fannies, it sits right down the road actually. If you're in the mood for a quick bite of seafood, then this might be the place if you're in a pinch, otherwise look elsewhere.

  • Kim S.

Not fancy, but good, home-style food. I've been here several times and always had tasty, fresh seafood. My favorite is the grouper throat, which sounds strange but is nirvana on a plate. The grits and cole slaw are excellent as well, and I've always had good service, even during the peak visitor season.

    (4)
  • Greg C.

Like some of the other reviewers we walked down from Hunt's because of the hour wait. I am so glad we did. The staff was much friendlier then Hunt's and we only waited 10 minutes. We had the oysters and grouper throats which were fantastic. My husband is an excellent cook and very picky about restaurants, even he was impressed.

Had to try this place out because of the hype. The building reminded me of an old gas station or auto repair shop. No wait on a Tuesday at 5:30. The beer choices are so-so. This should be called Captain's Table Diner. Very casual and no air-con. I am not an oyster lover so maybe you just have to know what to order. I ordered the scallops which were a little hard since they were bay scallops and small. This is not noted on the menu so ask. I think they could have been frozen ones like you can buy at the supermarket. The new potatoes were swimming in a small bowl of margarine and the cole slaw had bottled dressing mixed in. If I went here again I would just get the crab meat salad, since I need doses of raw food thru the day and that's about the only other item besides cole slaw that is not cooked but that has too much dressing on it. I enjoyed eating at the Red Lobster more than I did here.

Had the grilled grouper because of other yelp reviews. It was good. Service was good. Overall good place to eat.

    (4)
  • Jason K.

Food quality, atmosphere, and cleanliness do not meet expectations of a restaurant where entrees cost $25+ per plate. The grouper, cod, and scallions were good, but not $25 good. I've had better at Bonefish, which says a lot. Being this close to the ocean, the cost of fish should be better and freshness should be a given, so why the high cost of entrees? Like other reviewers have said, the restaurant is not well cleaned. I get the kitschy sea/fishing vibe they are going for, but dusting and a good deep cleaning is in order.

    (2)
  • Jason A.

Over rated in my opinion. The prices are a little high for the quality if food. There was nothing special about this place. We only came here because hunts oyster bar had an hour wait. Next time I will wait the hour for better food. At any rate the sweet tea was good along with the hush puppies. Other than that save your money and go to captain D's for the same quality.

    (2)
  • Laura M.

We went here because my husband loves all things seafood & had eaten here before. He loved the raw oysters & boiled shrimp. I don't eat seafood and therefore ordered a steak. It was a ribeye & wasn't very good. It was almost $25 and I was very disappointed. The steak wasn't very tender & I didn't even eat half of it. My recommendation would be that if you like seafood then maybe give it a try, but I would personally not return.

  • Brian S.

The baked oysters were wonderful. But that was about it for me. My wife and I ordered the captains platter, for which at $24, it left us desiring somethings else. The platter of fried oysters, fish, scallops, all tasted much like something i could get at buffet where that had been sitting for a while. My parents who where with me, enjoyed the crab soup and the flounder, as well as the grouper. Mom said the flounder was okay to good, while my dad's grouper was way overpowered by the horseradish sauce. Service was a bit slow as well. I guess, overall, I would have expected more out of a local seafood house.

Went to Captains Table for first time and last time. Our Hotel receptionist told us we had to go to St. Andrews and eat at the Captains Table so we went and disappointment is an understatement. This was the most ridiculous place we have ever ate at. After waiting over an hour and half we finally was seated by a non-smiling waitress. I ordered the steamed shrimp with butter sauce and baked potato, my wife ordered the catfish platter and a very dried up baked potato. When the food came out I had to do a double take at my very anticipated steamed shrimp plate. For $24 bucks I received 12 of the smallest shrimp I have ever ordered. I was truly embarrassed for the Resturant after serving these. They were truly the small frozen shrimp that you buy from Walmart and place in salads. Eating a platter of large steamed shrimp dipped in butter sauce was a primary goal of mine while vacationing in Panama City Beach and the Captains Table ruined the opportunity cause when I preceded to try and eat the small shrimp they tasted so bad like a pure Lemon dipped in butter that I lost all desire to eat anymore shrimp while on vacation. My wife had the no seasoned catfish plate and she tried and tried to season it with some salt so to try to get over the bland taste it had. She whispered to me I can't believe we wasted our valuable time for such a place. We are not complainers nor do we try and get a free meal when things go wrong so we just tried to swallow as much as we could without getting sick so to hurry up and pay and go back to Panama City Beach area for something else to eat. It was very upsetting to pay $63 dollars for two people and i could only swallow down 6 of the 12 shrimp they brought out because of the bad tasteI and my wife could only eat 1 piece of the catfish. I have never wrote a review for anything but I decided to go ahead and write one for this place so to possibly save someone else from ruining their vacation meal. The night we went to the Captains Table we was in a hurry and I failed to open up yelp and read the negative reviews so I take the responsibility for this experience. Please if you are in St. Andrews area to eat go past Captains table and go around the corner to Ernie's Resturant and you will not be disappointed. The one star is only there because of the fried jalapeños with ranch, they were the only thing we could eat. May God Bless

We wish we wouldn't have wasted our time and money. We had a party of 9 and all ordered a different meal and not one of us liked our meal. I love fresh seafood but this was a huge let down. The service was good but the food lacked a lot to be desired .

A little disappointing to say the least...the quantity of food we received did not reflected the prices!!! S l o w service and just so-so on taste...

I'm not a big seafood fan but this place cooks the best seafood I've ever had, my waitress Jessica also deserves a special mention

  • Deidre S.

Small town feel. Great wait staff and wonderful to explain some of the menu and the fresh caught fish. We loved our meal of broiled grouper, fried shrimp, cheese grits. The prices aren't bad. They are the same as everywhere else.

  • Rod H.

This is my favorite type of beach place. This is place is not fancy, but if you want great fresh seafood this is the place for you! My wife and I split 12 raw, and 12 fried oysters and both were good. Then we split an order of grouper throats and it was almost like eating a chicken breast, but really great. I can't wait to come back and try some new things.

Vanna gave great service. Wait was shorter than we were told. Crab legs were sweet and truly one pound order. Service was outstanding.

I only give it 1 because it WAS food...bit that's it. It has such a built up hype in the media and even reviews. But I don't get it. We tried it because of the hype..we moved here recently like 8 mos ago (I guess we were still dumb suckered in tourist!) anyways...walk in and you feel like you're in a truck stop greasy diner! The waitresses, while nice enough I suppose, were dressed very very, well idk just toooo casual maybe? The food wasn't horrible but just edible I guess. They described my shrimp pasta with lemon cream wine sauce so well I was salivating instantly..THEN OUR MEAL CAME. The pasta and shrimp dish tasted like a TV dinner (maybe a good brand but still a TV dinner) and overwhelmingly lemony! And sauce was not creamy at all! It was buttery buttery and lemony. And the new potatoes kn side were Swimming in butter! Now I like butter believe me but not a whole stick of it!!! And my husband had fried shrimp I thjng it was..may have had fish with it don't remember. it was something fried I know. I remember tryjng his shrimp and it tasted exactly like a frozen shrimp from grocery store! To wrap this up....UN caught fresh daily, greasy diner vibe, AND...expensive!! We spent $50 for two of us for processed frozen food and at Uncle Ernie's down the way, we always get awesome FRESH food for generally .$30-$40 for two of us. We spent recently at uncle Ernie's for me, hubby and son $48. DONT FALL FOR CAPTAIN TABLE HYPE!!!

Had dinner with a work colleague this evening at this establishment. As expected - it was very busy. Because there were only two of us we were seated quickly. Service was fair as was food. However about 10 minutes after we paid our bills ($39 for a soft drink and entree') the server asked us if we would leave because they had a 90 minute wait line. This seemed appalling to me so I asked "Why didn't you make your request BEFORE I tipped you and paid the bill?" Customer service and an enjoyable dining experience is NOT their aim - getting your money then telling you to take a hike is.

Excellent seafood. Fresh off the boat. Great price for raw oysters. Highly recommend this place. Great service.

  • Steve F.

I've eaten here before for lunch and it was excellent. However, tonight, a Thursday, I waited an hour and a half. I had a fried jalapenos appetizer and then I had fried grouper. My wife had grilled shrimp. She had a glass of house wine and I had a beer. The tab, with tip, was $80. For a cinder block building with absolutely NO atmosphere, this is RIDICULOUS. Again ,the food is good and the service excellent. Unfortunately, it is very over priced so I won't be back.

  • Ryan W.

Best place for all you can eat crab legs at dinner. The other sides and dishes are mediocre at best for a buffet. I would never go here except for the crab legs.

I don't know why some of these reviews are so bad! My wife and I went at dinner rush on a Wednesday night. We were seated right away, Sarah our server took our order immediately and then my wife and I settled down for a long wait which has been our experience here in PCB at every other restaurant. Sarah pops up and delivers our drink immediately. My wife and I begin to talk and whip out our iPhones and check mail and plan the next day. Ding! And Sarah is standing there with our food! Fantastic! My oysters were hot and tasty. The portion size was more than I could eat! My wife's shrimp was hot as well as the fries and okra. For dinner service the price was reasonable. We will continue to patronize the Table which we can't say about most of the restaurants in PCB. Highly recommend!

This restaurant was recommended by a cousin and his wife while we were in town visiting. The place doesn't look like much from the outside and as we entered it didn't look like much then either. We were seated within a few minutes for a party of seven. We were greeted by our server within a few minutes and we ordered our drinks. When she returned with our drinks and to take our she answered all of our questions patiently and took our orders.. I don't remember what everybody ordered but my dad and I ordered the fried shrimp, my mom and aunt ordered a blackened grouper sandwich, and I think someone ordered a broiled seafood platter. Everyone loved the food. The shrimp was fresh, the cole slaw was delicious, and the hush puppies were pretty good but a little sweet. My mom and aunt raved about their sandwiches, and no one went away hungry or disappointed. Great fresh seafood with great service. I would highly recommend this place.

Fun dinner out...great service. We hadn't had grouper cheeks or grouper throat before. The server told us all about it, how to eat it. WE LOVED IT!! So fun to try something new - we'll be back!

Delicious seafood (grilled) platter. Plenty to eat and yum. Wish I could get seafood like this closer to home LOL

  • Maggie S.

The baked oysters have always been a hit with whoever we bring here. Also do not miss their smoked tuna dip. I am not a hush puppy fan but boy these are great. I love their popcorn shrimp and sautéed crab claws. My husband really likes their soft shell crab. This is a local favorite but lots of people on vacation come here as well. Definitely worth the wait.

  • Tyler T.

Not much to say. It was OK - quality local seafood. However, I prefer Hunts. While the seafood was obviously fresh, my shrimp was overcooked and my cheese grits were runnier than they should be. That being said, my food and experience was still light years better than most seafood places, especially the chains. This has much more of a "restaurant" feel than Hunts, yet the service was a bit less attentive, but not so much that it ruined the meal. I would visit again if I wanted fresh local seafood in a quiet, more restaurant-y atmosphere.

Me, my parents went here on July 13th for dinner. We went there after my mom raved about the grouper throats and reading reviews, but I can say I was less than satisfied. My mom had an app of Shecrab soup, which I can say was pretty nice. Rich and creamy with a nice crab taste. Her dinner was the grouper throats, which were nice, but seemed to me underwhelming after hearing her rave about them the previous couple of days. My father had fried shrimp, which to me were the highlight of the meal. They were lightly battered and fried quite well. I had the grilled seafood "platter". I put platter in quotes because it was anything but. Most place when you see "platter" you expect a spread of food. Mine was probably the smallest meal out of everyone. The taste was good but nothing special, and as I said the size was woefully disappointing. Especially when it is one of the pricier menu items. A common side item there is the grits, which are quite bland. I had grits for a side at other places and these were hands down the worst. No taste. I had to load it down with butter and salt. The atmosphere is much calmer and family oriented as it is in the city district, off the beach. We arrived there a little after 6:30 and had about a 15 minute wait, though when were walking out the line was about 3 times as long as when we were waiting. The waitress was nice but was a little slow, we had to get a busboy to refill the drinks the one and only time we did, though to be fair just as the busboy was setting our drinks back down she came around the corner with a pitcher ready to refill them.

Captain's Table was recommended to my fiance and I by a server at Andy's Flour Power where we'd gone for breakfast Sunday morning, and we were happy we took her up on the recommendation. We got there about 5:00 or so, and it was a good thing we did, as it filled up quickly. Captain's is decorated like many local seafood restaurants, with nautical stuff on the walls, and the obligatory stuffed fish. I thought it kinda funny that there was a stuffed deer head on the wall as well, but hey.. why not. I had the fried crab cake dinner, which came with fries, hush puppies, and a salad. The salad was ok.. nothing much to speak of, but the blue cheese dressing was very good.. nice and thick. The crab cakes were outstanding. They were pan fried, and the seared perfectly. Rather than lump shaped, as I've had in other places, they were big.. and flat.. like a hamburger patty. The fries were standard crinkle cut, but very good just the same. My fiance had the broiled shrimp, which she enjoyed quite a bit. Everything was pretty reasonably priced for the area, and dinner with soft drinks and no dessert came out to just under $50. If you want a great place where the locals go, Captain's Table is one for you. Get there early to avoid a wait!

This place seems to be over-rated to me. Heavy advertising gives the impression of an outstanding seafood experience. I ordered the world-famous grouper throats. They are offered either fried or grilled, I chose grilled. First, the "throat" is a wierd cut of the fish to say the least. Then, they were very over cooked. There are better options out there.

I loved this place! I really really wanted some good seafood so we tried this place out. We ordered the baked oysters to start. The oysters were great! They were very big! My husband and I split the broiled seafood platter ($1.00 charge for sharing). The platter had scallops, crab, shrimp, fish and oysters. It was cooked perfectly and was enough to share. We had a salad and new potatoes and both sides were very good. I would recommend this place to seafood lovers and the service was great! Skip the shrimp boat and come here!

Food is great. Prices are a little high and service is hit or miss. Great local spot and much better than Hunt's!

We had dozen oysters, buffalo shrimp plate, bay scallops plate. Oysters were very fresh, reasonably priced and big! Buffalo shrimp was good, but Hooters is better (in our opinion.) The bay scallops were really good! I got them grilled, but they seemed for of a pan fried. They were cooked in bell peppers and onions with a great sauce! The food was good. Service was also good.

One of the best value seafood eateries in the Panama City area, especially if you want it fried. I love the grouper. I will say that if you want your food broiled, beware of the onion mix they put on top.....I did not like it. Just ask them to leave it off and they will. Also, it gets busy during peak hours but they are quick getting you in and out. If you are looking for a local place where the local people eat, this is your place.

This restaurant is well below average. I came here because it was one of the few places in the area open on Monday. The oysters were dead on arrival. The fried fish sandwich (cod) came out cold - it seemed like all the cod gets fried in big batch every 30 minutes. Biting into one of the three tiny fish strips, I got a whiff of fishy smell which got me convinced that this cod was not safe to eat. (turns out Cod is not local for PCB)

Have a great meal at Captain's Table in Panama City located just off Beach Avenue - Historic St. Andrews. My personal favorites are the Grouper Imperial and the Famous Grouper throats. Also I recommend trying the Tuna dip for the Appetizer.... - PCBVisitorGuide.com

We have heard about the grouper throats. They are good, but not as good as everyone says they are. We had the imperial grouper which was the best at the table we were with. It is covered in a heavy cream sauce over a bed of rice. We will always make room for Captain's Table. Great service there, good food.

I'm from out of town and was hoping for some really good seafood. My shrimp arrived cold, and was swimming in nothing but butter, the taste was just mediocre. The new potatoes were cooked with no seasoning except for maybe parsley. All in all, we were very disappointed with our experience there.

Went for lunch on a Monday in November. "Local color" place in historic part of town. Grouper was good, but a little greasy. Shrimp was very good. Scallops were small and a little chewy. Our seafood was all fried and ok but not special. Broccoli was way overcooked. Waitresses were ok but didn't seem real excited about being there. Food was a little pricey for what is was, but that is the nature of Panama City. All together the food and service was not bad, but it was not exceptional in any way.

Best kept secret in PCB! Excellent grilled red snapper, fried shrimp, and fresh hushpuppies- yum! Waitress was friendly and provided great recommendations. Only complaint was the noise after the place got crowded. We got there about 6-6:30 and were seated immediately. But the place was packed by 7pm with a wait.

Had dinner here Nov. 2009 and Oct. 2010. Both times were very good. Excellent fried grouper and delicious grilled seafood. Oysters are very good, according to my husband. My parents really enjoyed their meals as well. Sister had red snapper and it was very tasty. The service was very good both times. We will definitely be going back on our vacation next month! Can't wait!!

first time visit since I drive past this place every day on the way home from work I had to try , a dozen baked oysters Rockefeller (Rockefeller meaning with a quite tasty artichoke and spinach dip on top) and a lemon slice to squirt on them for $13. Oysters were indeed quite good, especially with some Crystal hot sauce and lemon juice. I don't know if they were from Apalachicola (i.e. local) or from elsewhere, the menu does not specify. The restaurant is pretty no frills and casual actually, my oysters were served on a plastic cafeteria tray (no plate) and there is a roll of paper towels on the table. I hope the cafeteria trays are washed as well as the dishes are, since it is being used just like a dish (?) Menu seemed to have a lot of fried fish on it , the place has kind of a "Southern feel", but I saw numerous grilled options also. The restaurant has a small bar on the side, a couple normal sized TVs were showing sports. Oh, and a tidbit reflective of the right wing, conservative political orientation of this area : the sides list on the menu still reads "Freedom Fries" in order to avoid the word "French"..

I'm from Houston and visit Florida often. This by far was my fav restaurant! I LOVE LOVE LOVE their hush puppies and the grouper with crab meat on top. So good makes you wanna slap yo momma! LOL In all seriousness though, this restaurant is the only reason why I keep wanting to go back to Panama City :) I highly recommend it! My hubby loves the grouper throats! I love the seafood variety compared to seafood restaurants here in Houston. Also, the service was great! Everyone was friendly, but it was a very long wait! I suggest you make reservations or go early!

Good oysters but crowed waiting area with no air conditioning. High prices for low quality food.
